In this graphic work, Halvadaki examines how family history intersects with national identity, political propaganda, and the legacy of antiquity. Memory is Part First Person, Part Collective begins with a family photograph taken in Athens in 1971. In the image, three conscripts, including the artist’s father, stage an ancient battle during Greece’s military junta. Handwritten text fragments surround the scene, forming a written narrative that weaves together memory, storytelling, and historical documentation. Halvadaki investigates the photograph as both personal testimony and an instrument of state propaganda.
